2016 was a year, like many others, that brought so many new opportunities into my life… some bigger, and more exciting than I ever could have imagined! We traveled, attended SO many weddings, sold our first home, bought another fixer upper, walked in our very first pride parade, and started the first chapter of my new career! (just to name a few)
But, of course not everything that happened in 2016 was Ah-mazing… but we learned to move on… or we tried… So as the year came to a close, I found myself learning of people’s regrets and living by the motto of “there’s always next year” which is true, there always is next year… but if 2016 hadn’t taught me anything, it had at least taught me that life is too short to dwell on things you cannot change and/or mourn the stuff that’s out of our control. Believe me, my anxiety and OCD gets the better of me 90% of the time… but once I learned to let go of the fear of failing (and sometimes falling) or disappointing myself, a whole world of possibilities opened up! So finally, 2016 was the year I started to let it all out! (my creative freak flag that is…)
Let’s take a look at some of the things that made 2016 such a stand out year for me!
Started 2016 with a “small” kitchen renovation…
After the kitchen was finished, we did what any reasonable person would do and… listed the house!!
24 hours later and a small bidding war…
(or at least a pending offer) damn inspections…
You can see all the before and afters of our first home HERE
Shortly after, I staged our neighbors home… and it sold too!
Found our “NEW” home…
Started a couple projects for clients…
Still putting the finishing touches on this project… (think beautiful custom made, built-in bar) *squeals*
I think we may have gone to Chicago for a wedding sometime in between these projects… (it was a blur)
We seriously take the best #selfies…
When we got home we FINALLY closed on the “new” house and immediately started DEMO!
Finished up another project for a friend! Just in time for their wedding reception…
We took a couple of trips to Columbus… a wedding and of course PRIDE!
“Do you even lift, bro?”
MUST love a good WEDDING #selfie
Back to the grind, we started sanding floors, building the fence, and replastering the downstairs of the “new” house…
I staged a house or two, and met a few new clients…
Did a car dealership’s service waiting area!
Did a few smaller projects… paint, decor, drapes, etc…
Finished this ADORABLE pink office makeover!
Cleaned up the landscaping at the house a bit… removed SO many trees!
Oh yeah… (in case you didn’t notice) that’s a fresh coat of paint and all new windows this beast is sporting!
No longer the “Greatful Dead House”
Did some kayaking on the Cuyahoga… (very calming)
Took a trip to NYC! (seriously my favorite place)
I ALWAYS come back from NYC with such inspiration…
Quickly started another project just in time to finish before the Holidays!
Finished this AMAZING basement reno just in time for Thanksgiving!
A lot happened while this project was going on… including losing my grandpa… it was definitely a surprise to us all but he’s now at peace.
RIP Grandpa Mort
RIP Grandma Shirley
Although losing a loved one is difficult, (especially 2 in one year) getting to spend time with other family members is always amazing… especially the ones you don’t get to see that often!
Like this dude… who loves to shop… (or hold my bags)
Oh and in all the commotion… I VOTED!
Christmas and New Year have now gone and passed and it’s time to start the next chapter… I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store for us! (I’m really crossing my fingers for A LOT more Before and Afters!)
So stay tuned this year for PLENTY of posts! All new projects, our home renovation updates, before and afters, and tons more (so much I don’t even know “what” yet!)
For all of those whole follow along my journey to be the “next big thing” in the design and renovation world, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! Somedays I still feel like a little kid surrounded by all these adults asking me… “ME!?” what and how to do things. But it’s each and every one of you who that constantly remind me, that I’m doing exactly what I should be!
To you, and all of your loved ones… may 2017 be your year!
Catch you on the flip side, kids! (or next week) 😉
Do what you love, and love what you do!
